Frank, I agree with what you're saying (apart from the bit about marijuana users 'usually' abusing other substances, which I have a question mark over in the absence of data) and I 100% agree that legality shouldn't be the basis on which safety is decided.
However, Brenda's original post was about a hospital policy that holds that marijuana use in the final weeks of pregnancy should be considered an automatic reason to try to stop the mother from breastfeeding, regardless of any kind of individual risk assessment over whether the mother is actually planning to continue using it while nursing. That's less a safety issue and more a 'You are now in the category of Bad Mothers Who Are Unfit To Breastfeed' issue.
