What makes the pediatrician think breastfeeding is working if it’s causing pain? The baby is growing? That’s a myopic viewpoint that the ped. needs to change. We don’t need research to know the breastfeeding parent should NOT be hurting. So unless I misunderstood your question, the answer is breastfeeding isn’t working if one of the people involved is having a difficulty. In that situation, thanks goodness there is a good milk supply, but there still is a problem of pain.
I hope this makes sense as I’m on vacation but had to respond.
