So far, no infant has rejected the breast because of the peppermint taste and/or smell.
This is true for any of the published studies and for those who have tried my peppermint gel.
The amount present in the gel is very low and is less than used in regular peppermint mints.
Peppermint also acts as a stomachic and therefore can aid in digestion.
Peppermint is also used for nausea and motion sickness.
Peppermint does not show any antigalactogue properties used topically.
Peppermint is classified as GRAS (Generally Recommended As Safe) by the FDA.
Of course, if one is allergic to peppermint, or lanolin, or any product, it should not be used.
Marsha Walker's article, "Are There Any Cures for Sore Nipples?", gives a great review of all the nipple products, including peppermint.
I would be glad to send a copy to anyone that wants to see it, if you cannot locate it.
