Meaning old....but we used to use peppermint tea all the time ,20 years ago.
I can't recall any milk supply issues.
I do remember the moms drinking one or 2 cups a day while in hospital post
op.
Great question! Thanks for the memory jog!!!!

Hi there
Wondering if anyone can help. Recently the nurses where I work have started
recommending peppermint tea for post c-section moms as a way to reduce gas
and increase comfort. When I suggested that this might not be a good idea
due to potentially decreasing their milk supply, I was told I was extreme
in my approach and surely a few cups of tea won't hurt. Generally these
moms are drinking 2 to 3 cups a day for 2 to 5 days. So, my question is,
are there any studies showing how much peppermint is needed to decrease
milk supply? I suggested a nice green tea instead, but peppermint seems to
remain the flavour of the day, and I would hate to think we are setting up
these moms for a lower supply before they even leave the hospital.
thanks in advance for your help
Sonya
