Our chief of Maternal Child dept wants me to start a monthly class for pregnant women where I have a panel of moms and babies who are currently breastfeeding. The pregnant women will get to ask questions of the moms. This will be totally different from the regular prenatal BF class.
Our BF initiation rate is 90% already so we are hoping this class will help duration.
I am telling the moms on the panel the goal is to encourage women to
breastfeed. They hear about challenges that can occur (pain, etc.) but we
want them to know that these can usually be solved by getting help and
support. It will be important for them to hear from you, a mom who is
breastfeeding now, that breastfeeding is important and worth it.
Also, to expect to be asked:
1) What was your biggest challenge in the beginning?
2) What made you continue to breastfeed despite pain or other challenge?
3) What advice do you have for someone who plans to breastfeed or is unsure
if she want to?
4) How do you involve the father (or other support person) in baby's care
(besides feeding a bottle)?
Have any of you done this before? I'm looking for suggestions.
