Thanks Pat for commenting on this.

I just recently had a start up contact me about joining them. I didn't really want to waste my time talking to them without really knowing what the benefits were. The start up is called BabyDoctor. They would not give me any specific quotes as to how I might benefit other than shares in their company. I asked around and it sounds like they would make $100 for each visit and charge the client $325 per 60 minutes (or for one person I talked to 90 minutes). Since this is ONLY for home visits and since they didn't quote any "benefits" it sounds like one of those schemes that is popular for hiring consultants without having to pay benefits. Needless to say, I have better things to do with the $100 that they would collect if I chose to join them. If I put aside $100 from every consult - I could use it for retirement, health insurance or even advertising my services.

They seemed sincere but completely clueless about how lactation visits work and the enticements that might make lactation consultants join them. All they really offered was referrals and $100 a referral is just simply way too expensive.

Best,
