When i was working in Detroit MI in early 90's (yes 30 years ago) mom/baby were discharged 24-36 hours after delivery (depended on time of birth, then I went and checked mom and baby on day 2 & 4 and I could get extra vss if needed for BF or bili etc.  Most babies were at or above birth weight at day 4.  I could take as long as I  needed plus travel time.  I would guess that home visit expenses were less than if mom stayed 3-4 days in hospital to get BF going well. C-sec moms stayed 2-3 days in hosp depending on mom's progress
.  Today...moms aren't staying long around here in SJ.  I think ins should be paying for routine post natal vss at home.  I think it is wrong that a 3-4 day pp mom has to drive or get driven to ped office for weight check. and nobody is checking her either :-(  Pat in SNJ
