A number of years ago someone put me on to the “paced Bottle feeding method” which I am sure most have heard about. I have found after starting with a long nipple such as used by the darn formula companies, I actually seem to get babies to latch better and it stimulates the tongue action without causing a baby to be overwhelmed. All the short nipples seem to not allow for good tongue extension and suck training. Recently had a baby who would only finger feed but this was not workable for parents in the long run and baby would not breastfeed, after a couple of days on the long old fashioned nipple baby was actually breastfeeding. On occasion if more length and slower flow is needed I use a special needs feeder that works very well for transitioning as well. One would not think so but they have worked so well. I am not a researcher so have not put these items to the test of stringent research criteria cheers Attie Sandink RN, IBCLC, CLE©, CBE Private Breastfeeding Consultant and Educator http://www.birthandbabyneeds.com <http://www.birthandbabyneeds.com/> https://www.facebook.com/pages/Birth-and-Baby-Needs/153481534761771 <https://www.facebook.com/pages/Birth-and-Baby-Needs/153481534761771> *********************************************** Archives: http://community.lsoft.com/archives/LACTNET.html To reach list owners: [log in to unmask] Mail all list management commands to: [log in to unmask] COMMANDS: 1.
