I have taken to recommending single pumping with hands on for the first day
or so. Anecdotally I see more colostrum being collected. I recommend about
10-12 minutes per side or switch back and forth for 20 min. I think it is
helping mothers to get comfortable with handling and monitoring their
breasts. I think double pumping can be intimidating, mother cannot control
suction herself, mother often has iv's, catheter, and those devices of the
legs to prevent blood clots.
