Karleen I have been running this battle for years, not just with aid
organizations but food banks and charities that actually enclose appeals for
funding with the logos of formula manufacturers.
To many of these charities and food aid organizations I have suggested
volunteering a breastfeeding hot line and even had 70 qualified
breastfeeding counsellors lined up to keep a line going daily. We just
needed funding for the infrastructure. Nobody took us up on this, not even
Leket which is the most publicized food bank who are famous for gleaning and
distributing surplus foods to needy families. The main Israeli formula
manufacture is owned of course by Nestles and although they are subsidizing
the initial donations their hope is that needy mothers will get dependent on
their product as happened in the Third World.
