The US Lactation Consultant Association is the lead organization working
towards licensure of the IBCLC in the United States. USLCA has a model
licensure bill that many states use as a template when writing their
licensure legislation. The Oregon bill does not follow this template and
was crafted without input from USLCA, leading to a bill that could result
in confusion and outcomes that are less than ideal. USLCA is always
delighted to consult with states working on IBCLC licensure and has a
library of helpful documents. The current issue of Clinical Lactation has 2
articles on licensure. Questions and concerns about IBCLC licensing can be
directed to the Chair of the Licensure and Reimbursement Committee at
USLCA.
