Are you aware of the CDC guidelines? They say to sterilize once daily especially for preterm infants and if baby is less than 3 months. I work in an outpatient breastfeeding center and all the LCs here recommend sterilizing pump parts daily. This can be done by boiling, microwaving in sterilizer, or using sanitize setting on dishwasher. Yes, plastic does break down over time and will sometimes the parts need to be replaced.
