Wow, Debbie, who is this awesome person??? Can we clone her??? Seriously, though, I also have an issue with lack of support from management. We are a small community hospital (approx 40 deliveries/month with a 10 bed Level 2 NICU). Lactation Support here has always been considered a "frill". This past week our Male Supervisor presented our unit with a huge binder of "Competencies" which we are all required to get signed off on over the next months. You can guess what competency was missing: Breastfeeding, pumping, and anything having to do with same.
So, of course, I requested to develop them and was told, rather half-heartedly..."well, ok, just keep them brief".
If anyone is willing to share their Breastfeeding Competencies, please email me privately.
