Hi Jennifer

This sounds tricky - mainly because of the mother's diet which you
describe as terrible, and it certainly doesn't look good.

I wanted to say that I think you're definitely on the right track in
suggesting doing a very strict elimination diet. I find it works
best if done _totally_ (no bovine proteins whatsoever, and that
includes beef and beef products) for three full weeks, not two. And
then evaluate. Some babies will respond positively after 2-3 days,
or at least respond a bit, enough to keep the mother going.... Some
will take a full three weeks.

I would ask the GI specialist for his references, have never heard of
a mother's milk containing intrinsically larger proteins, though of
course a mother with her own food sensitivity (may Sx of asthma,
eczema, acne, hay fever, bowel problems etc) may secrete foreign
proteins in her milk, to which the baby becomes sensitized.

And no, I've never heard that scalding breastmilk would help.

The _only_ that helps IME is continued exclusive breastfeeding with
the complete maternal elimination of bovine.

Please keep us posted. This sounds like a bad case. Sometimes the
results can seem truly miraculous when it's done devotedly!
