For IBCLC's that are not APNP's or MD's, I'm just wondering, how do people feel about recommending over the counter medications such as ibuprofen or Tylenol to a mother? Does this fall within the scope of our practice? I'm wondering if ILCA gives any guidance on this. I found one statement that said we recommend treatments for sore nipples or engorgement, as appropriate, but could not find anything specific about over the counter medications.
Sincerely,
Tricia Shamblin, RN, IBCLC
