Was just reading the post about the military couple getting flak about
extended nursing--had to put in my two cents worth.
When my first child (now 5) was born, I was a Major in the
Canadian Army. Imagine their consternation when I continued to nurse
past the requisite 4 months (people seemed OK with nursing
newborns).
As a major in the army, and a medical doctor, who
nursed her children well past the age of two, I can say I think my peer
group was about zilch. I only hope that I was able to change the
attitudes of some of the nonbelievers. (You can bet that nursing
mothers and fathers got a fair shake at my base!)
