We have been using donor milk for 14 years. We bill, but usually "eat"
the cost, as MediCal (CA Medicare) does not pay separately for inpatient
services - there is a per diem for each patient based on degree of illness
that is supposed to cover everything. Private insurance usually denies the
charge - they classify it as food, which is part of the hospital daily charge.
Texas Children's was able to get it paid for by going to the State and
having PDHM classified as a medicine. The FDA does not agree.
