I cannot bear to think of not having Lactnet as a resource. I tell everyone I know that gets into lactation that they must subscribe to Lactnet. I, too, am a bit of a lactasaurus and prefer my Lactnet in an email than on Face Book or other social media.

I started reading Lactnet at least 19 years ago. I was an aspiring lactation consultant and Lactnet was my mentor. No one in my area was doing lactation and I was on my own to propose it as a new position in our hospital. Lactnet gave me information and opinions from all of the wise ones in lactation. I got to read about situations I had never encountered and what to do/try. Lactnet keeps me up to date, lets me know about concerns all over the US and other parts of the world, discusses breaking news regarding lactation and things that affect women and children. For me, I am mostly a lurker, but I use Lactnet as a resource for what's new in research, what new books are out, latest articles, accessing experts, what is new in credentialing, sites for further education, product evaluation, exciting and intelligent discussion about subjects I am passionate about. Lactnet discussions have given me the guts to stand up for breastfeeding and rights that I may not have felt so confident about on my own without the knowledge and resolve that those posts gave to me. I am so thankful for experts and seasoned LC's who continue to read and post on Lactnet because we are soaking up every word and learning from you every day.

I have been especially grateful for posts about legal issues, medications, tongue tie, herbs, understanding human diversity and culture. Basic lactation information I can get from a book.... less common topics, pearls of wisdom and the realities of practicing either come from experience or by having a fabulous mentor. Lactnet has been that and best friend that I have cried with, laughed with, and fought the fight with. LONG LIVE LACTNET!!!!!!
