Hi Allyson,
Mostly support mom. She can be prepared that her baby will have some
additional testing for example some x-rays for GI issues and an echo for
the heart as these things can be associated with Down Syndrome. The baby
will likely have lower muscle tone so the feedings may not be so vigorous.
Uusual support as in a late preterm infant. Very very important for mother
to begin expressing her milk that will help the most in my opinion to
develop and maintain good milk production. This means a hospital-grade pump
will be necessary and should be covered if she has insurance. Again mostly
support. Tthe baby will tell you what he's able to do.
