Hi Julieanne
Good to have you back!
There's a short article published earlier this year in Breastfeeding
Medicine by Arthur Edelman, at
http://online.liebertpub.com/doi/pdf/10.1089/bfm.2016.29007.aie which
provides what sounds like authoritative definitions, and with refs:
- Late preterm infant: born between 34 and 36 + 6 weeks and identified
as a distinct clinical entity, representing up to 8% of births.
- Early-term infant: born between 37 and 38.6 weeks, (definition in
place in the last 3 years).
A myriad of problems such as temp instability, hypoglycaemia, respiratory
distress and increased and prolonged jaundice are described for both
degrees of prematurity ....
Hope this helps and best wishes as you assist your client.
Pamela Morrison IBCLC
