<Her family doctor informed her to start night training as
the baby could sleep up to 12 hours at night. So the mother
was advised when her baby wakes up to just let him cry and
 not breastfed him.
Has anyone heard of this as I feel this is like scheduled
 feeding?>

Bad, bad idea. Had a babe like this in my office not too long ago. It was not the pediatrician's idea in her case; just her "friends." When she called the pediatrician, concerned about her milk supply, she was referred on to me. Good thing! As soon as she undressed the baby, I knew we were in trouble. Baby hadn't gained between 2 months and 4 months. :( Yes, mom's milk supply was low. She was scheduling feedings around the clock in addition to the long periods without eating at night.

There's a reason babies awaken at night to eat. There's a reason the AAP does not support this practice. Now if we can just get the two together on the same page, we'll make some progress.
