Thank you Catherine! I am familiar with the small capillary breakage possibility - are we talking "rusty pipe", such as what is experienced by usually the first time mom and in the early days of breastfeeding - or is it also common/possible in a multip and mom of a one month old who experienced no problems the first month? She mentioned that it was bright red blood, not "pink milk" though. And yes, it does sound like possibly mastitis/plugged duct from her achy feeling, tender breast symptoms, however the bright red blood is what I found unusual in my experience and to my knowledge as a symptom of mastitis or plugged ducts. Lawrence is the first time I've seen vascular engorgement as a cause for seeing blood when pumping/breastfeeding. She has not experienced any trauma to her breast. Any more thoughts?
