An informed mother should make the final decision, but unfortunately the
Lactation Consultant may get in trouble for supporting her right to
breastfeed. I hope Maureen will give permission to share her post with that
mom, as it is a beautiful and sensible explanation.
If I were the LC, I would have handy the hospital's mission, vision or
patient rights which surely will state pt has a right to be informed of
alternative treatments, risks, benefits, and/or something about
evidence-based, current practice.(especially since the pt sought the
information).
