Dr. Hale did some extensive research on "breast yeast" and could not find evidence that it is there. Possibly this mother may have other reason for deep breast pain - such as blocked ducts, a baby with a weak or compressive suck that causes milk to "reflux" into the less full areas of the breast. Have you observed a latch and checked for these things?

Subject: Milk cultures: how long to find yeast?
Dear Lactnetters
Ordered milk cultures for the first time due to mom's persistent breast pain post antibiotics for mastitis followed by 4 wk treatment for yeast. Had ruled out other possible causes. No growth in 3 days. Is it possible for a culture to take a week before yeast is found?
Thanks for sharing,
Melinda
