I have the mother's permission to seek information on this.
Mother is 8 months pg and during pregnancy she has become aware of
extra mammary tissue building up near her armpit, but apparently
separated from her breasts. It feels tender and lumpy to her touch,
and the tenderness is inside, not on the surface. There are no extra
nipples that she can see.
The midwife and the obs have checked her out and say this is prob
what it is, but have given her no further info.
She is concerned about what will happen when her baby is born.
I shared with her my little knowledge on this, that her extra tissue
would prob produce milk....and that I hoped it would disappear and
the tissue involute, rather than cause problems, but I said I did not
know a great deal. I know it's unusual but not very rare, and a
search through the web for papers has failed to enlighten me on what
happens when the mother starts to produce milk and starts to bf. I
have come across a couple of women who have had the anomaly, and my
memory is they bf just fine.
Hope someone has more experience of this than me.
