In Norway, as I recall, mothers are paid by the government for their
breastmilk. I recently visited Tromsø where I met with some friends from
30 years ago when I lived there. One of my friends said that he daughter
held the record for most milk donated!!

When my own son was born in Tromsø in 1984, there were posters on the walls
in the maternity hospital urging mothers to donate - it was considered to
be donating because it was going right to the hospital for the sick babies.

"A newborn baby has only three demands. They are warmth in the arms of its
mother, food from her breasts, and security in the knowledge of her
presence. Breastfeeding satisfies all three." -Dr. Grantly Dick-Read
