I looked it up in my '94 Lawrence. No studies are referenced, but it states "The condition [plugged ducts] dramatically improved by limiting the mother to polyunsaturated fats and adding lecithin to the diet." It goes on to say that "lecithin is an oily substance that can be used as an oil on salads or taken by spoon, one tablespoon per day." Page 258.

Mohrbacher in 2010 suggests that mother reduce sat fats in her diet and take lecithin. Her ref all track back to the 1994 Lawrence. Newman says" I have found that lecithin occasionally helps, but I don't know how it works." [!] He goes on to say lecithin is a phospholipid which is found in many foods [[found in human milk]. Reported one case where evening primrose helped, but one case is not proof. I don't know where the original idea came from , but I have found it works. :-( Pat in SNJ
