Why does anyone think that "sterile" is good (i.e. breast milk is sterile)?  

 

We have already been warned about the need to avoid repeated uses of antibacterial soap as our skin requires a variety of bacteria to be present - to say nothing of the gut, which requires a huge amount of bacteria - probably many we don't even know about yet, because there must be a huge variety depending on where you live!

 

I'm very glad that these studies are being done, as they will again stress the importance of mother's own milk for her baby (whenever possible), as well as ways to help improve the health of mothers and babies – breastfed or not!

 

However, I am concerned about how this information will be picked up and interpreted by the media - and by pro-formula ("protect your baby from..." or "what do we need to add and charge extra for") or pro-pharmaceutical and/or others who will be selling...what else…products to "increase the microbiome" or "make sure you have the right balance..." etc....

 

Thanks for sharing this!  More information we need to be aware of - and try to develop a response when (notice I don't say IF) moms ask us "which one should I take?"
