I don't understand why the hospital needs to know a mother's feeding
plans before she has the baby.
The default after the birth should be skin to skin, mother & baby,
and support to have the first breastfeed. Sensitive HCPs can do this,
without making assumptions, and by gentle checking that the mother is
not actually against this happening.
During antenatal checks and antenatal education, the mother can hear
about the routine care and support immediately after birth and
postnatally.
I can't think of any good reason why she should be asked to decide on
breast, bottle or mixed before the baby is actually born.
Please explain!
