Dear Lactnet Friends;

Lisa asks about the biting toddler, saying that the mother wants to
breastfeed for 2 or 3 years.

Seems like the toddler might have other ideas. Sometimes toddlers bite
when they don't want to breastfeed.

If the baby is loosing weight, it is probably from another cause as a
15-month old is usually eating other foods. Has teething and any illness
been ruled out.

It is upsetting for a mother whose heart is set on a long term nursing
relationship, when her baby starts saying, "Done." I saw this with a
colleague who had problems getting the breastfeeding relationship going
with 2 children, and with the 3rd, was determined to breastfeed for years.
The baby weaned at a year.

Kids. They do have minds of their own.

warmly,
