I work for WIC and in an effort to both connect with our local pediatricians, and reduce excessive supplementation, my agency is working up a little “prescription” or plan of care form to give to doctors who tell moms to supplement with over the counter formula, and I’m wondering if anyone else has seen and/or used something like this before.
We want something very simple. A little, fill in the blank paragraph with the reason for supplementation, amount, and duration. We see so many moms that start supplementing under doctors orders without an end date, we’re hoping that with written instructions they’ll be more likely to return to fully breastfeeding when it becomes possible.
My questions are this—first, is it a reasonable step to take? Second, do you foresee having any luck with pediatricians if it’s offered as a tool to help moms? Third, if you have used a form like this, is there a sample you’d be willing to share with me?
Thank you!
