Dear Fellow LCs,

A few days ago I received a mailing from ILCA looking to fill a job
vacancy on a collaborative project with another organization, which
has as its object helping hospitals increase breastfeeding initiation
rates. A worthy cause. But requirements include RN and IBCLC
credentials, and experience working with families in a hospital
setting, knowledge of BFHI, experience in training nurses etc.

I should say right now that I'm not interested in applying. But does
anyone else (apart from me) feel any concern that ILCA is attempting
to recruit IBCLCs who are also required to have another
qualification? I can see why being an RN would be helpful, but my
objection is that ILCA , the professional association for IBCLCs,
whose self-proclaimed vision is that the IBCLC is the globally
recognized professional authority on lactation, and whose mission is
to advance the IBCLC profession worldwide through leadership,
advocacy, professional development and research, felt the need to
advertise for a position where being "only" an IBCLC was clearly inadequate.

Would anyone care to join me in writing to Jessica Lytle, Assistance
Executive Director of ILCA, at <[log in to unmask]> to express concern??
