Hi Molly.

The gumdrop pacifier is slightly shorter in length than the soothie, but the same shape.  It works well for babies with smaller mouths, but still has the cylindrical shape that promotes tongue cupping, and the slightly wider base that allows for the lips to flange.  

Depending on baby's age, he might do well with a shape that puts the mouth in a different position than with breastfeeding.  Mom will just want to pay attention to how the baby is doing with latch.
