Thank you all for explaining what i meant to Brian.

I'm a huge supporter of the free market.  But there are a lot of unethical
or amoral persons who would abuse the free market at the great expense of
others and the environment if not restricted.  Having restrictive
regulations is not the same as a planned economy, which I do not support.

I am happy with the restrictions in California which have led to cleaner
air and water, the protection of wildlands, the best pesticide regulation
in the country, recovering fisheries, etc.

I live in the Gold Country, which was environmentally devasted by the free
market prior to such restrictions (the first environmental law was written
right here to stop the excesses of hydraulic mining).
