I have a 42-year-old client who recently began the surrogacy process in
India. Their baby(s) is due 12/17/14. She wants to induce
lactation/breastfeed and is considering using the Newman-Goldfarb protocol
(OCPs, domperidone and pumping with herbal supplements ~ 6 weeks prior to
EDD.) She is not sure she is comfortable with the domperidone. I get that.
Our question: Does anyone have experience using an herbal alternative to
domperidone to stimulate prolactin production during this “induced
pregnancy" phase? I work extensively with moms experiencing low milk
supply and frequently use traditional western herbs (like the Gaia and
HerbPharm combinations) and shatavari. While effective, this combination
does work as well as domperidone. The same may be true for induced
lactation. We are hoping to benefit from others’ experience.
Thank you!
