If it is generally agreed that breastfeeding needs to begin in the first hour........then why wait up to 6 hours to initiate hand expression ?
One ref (2003) suggested 5x/day and another (2010) showed moms pumping averaged 96 min/day. Chris Mulford always said 100 min/day, but I don't know where she got that from. I usually recommend frequently during day and before bed time and then once @ night, first thing in am for new moms with sick or premie babies. A FT baby nurses 8-12 times/day. If we are going for a good supply and good duration of breastfeeding we need to get as close to natural as possible without exhausting mom. Pat in SNJ
