At our hospital we like to get the moms hand expressing into syringes or medicine cups within 6 hours of delivery. we use small amounts of colostrum for oral care if the babies are on a vent or NPO. We ask them to hand express at least 5x each 24 hours and add pumping with a hospital-grade pump to total at least 8 stimulations per 24 hours.
