I don't know if your signature indicates you have easy access to materials
back in the U.S. but if you want an historical perspective, of women in
the founding of archaeoligcal sciences here in the U.S. from the Civil War
to the Second World war, youmight find the first chapter of the 2013 book:
Cultural Negotiations: The Role of Women in the Founding of Americanist
Archaeology.  Lincoln: University of Nebraska Press, an interesting
perspective.
