Mary,

I did not confirm that there was no concern of false negatives. The
conversation took place in a rural hospital where moms birthing were
predominantly very young and often substance abusers with little prenatal
care. The head of the lab was actually poking my baby's heel at the time,
and felt the need to remark, "These d@mn breastfed babies are always
dehydrated. They never bleed!" She was happy to gripe about needing a
captive audience, but did not say anything about false readings, just
getting it done while they were present.
