I saw a mother and 3 day old baby today. The baby wants to suck on her tongue and sticks it out when beginning to attempt to latch. When she is latched on completely, she appears to be latched correctly. I am wondering though if she is using her tongue incorrectly. The mother's nipple is a little creased and slightly flattened when she takes baby off. What else can I look for? Mother's nipples are a little sore. Also, baby's tongue seems a bit more visible when latched than is normal.
