A recent issue of "Clinical Lactation" -- in addition to some other
excellent articles, all available on-line, included a great round-up
article by Marsha Walker on sore nipples and possible treatments, some
of which, like LED therapy, I'd never heard of -- everyone should read it!.
http://www.clinicallactation.org/Volume/4/Issue/3

On blebs, she quoted from research by O’Hara (2012), that a microscopic
analysis of the white plug didn't reveal bacterial or fungal organisms,
but immune cells, suggesting an inflammatory response to nipple trauma.
A suggested treatment was removing the bleb with a punch biopsy tool and
a thin application of a mid-level topical steroid with an occlusive
dressing.

Anyway, another angle.
