Hi Lisa, and all,
Thanks, I neglected to mention that the upper labial frenulum was released
as well. We're very lucky to have someone local who is both comfortable
with very posterior lingual ties and always checks on the upper labial as
well. As for the pump, every mom I see has a sheet with Jane Morton's link on
it - you are right about how helpful it is. It's part of every mom's
education when they need to express milk. ( And I was shooting off emails
immediately when that site was taken down for a bit as, uh "obscene"... ugh.) My
concern is whether with all that has been done ( and hasn't led to much
functional improvement yet) whether this mom can expect a decrease in her
milk supply even with all this work continuing if she uses the Q exclusively
while traveling. One colleague with years of experience renting and selling
pumps says she cannot agree that this is a "rental" quality pump. Being a
safe multi user pump ( closed system) means more than one mom could use it in
a day, but I can't find anything about actual frequency of use. Like three
moms could safely use it once a day each and that could meet a definition
of "rental" quality ( which is really not a standard well-defined right?).
I want to know if this pump can be used 8 times in 24 hours and drive a
supply for a baby who can't. I agree with you also that CST can take time. I
always tell parents that when things take time to develop in a particular
way, they may take time to unwind or shift towards more function. We might
not actually want some things to happen too quickly or dramatically, it might
be painful or disruptive for a system. Anyway, I am very hopeful that with
more sessions things will be better. In an ironic twist the new CST is
away for all of August, ugh. But this family is doing what they can. I want
to make sure that if there's something I can help them with to take away
some of the work and/or worry of this situation, I'm doing it, hence the
Hygiea research. Thanks for responding. If anyone else has direct experience
with this pump with their moms please let me know.
