Tania, the other issue besides artificially feeding is the lack of will to get the tongue tie revision.  Parents may see it a major surgery, which would be frightening to them.  Describing the surgery can make this less of an issue.  As for seeing the need to do a TT revision, it can help to compare the frenulum to webbing between a baby's fingers (much more rare, but still).  It is easy to understand how webbing between someone's fingers can make it difficult for the hands to function normally.  So it is with a restrictive frenulum: it makes it difficult for the tongue to function normally.  The baby is not breastfeeding well, the child may have trouble speaking, eating food, and, later, French kissing, which would be a true tragedy!  Also, it's not just the formula, there's the bottle too, which alters the way the facial muscles develop, and in a tongue-tied child, perhaps this is compounded (that's just a guess).

My 2c,
Julie Tardos
