Dear Lactnet Friends:
Heather wonders, "And how does the HCP step in to say 'STOP
passing that baby round like a bowl of popcorn!' when the relatives
make the most of their photo opportunity?"
Here are some reasons:
1) Newborn has to be fed. Any visitors that want to help the mother with
breastfeeding are welcome to stay; others, please go home and clean her
house.
2) Newborn is getting cold being passed around. (This is true. Even
swaddled babies are colder than babies s2s).
3) 1 and 2 are said in a cheerful, "Of course you want to help this baby
and new mother and here is what you can do" tone.
warmly,
