Hello everyone,
I read recently that nystatin is no longer preferred for thrush because candida has become resistant to it. How about for treating the infant though? I still see many people recommending oral nystatin drops when its present in the infant's mouth? Is there a different treatment available now?
I was always told that both mother and baby should be treated even if there is no sign of infection in the infant yet, since it spreads back and forth so easily. Is that still recommended because I have a hard time finding a provider that will treat the infant if they do not see white patches in their mouth?
I like the APNO cream from Dr. Newman. Will that also help treat the infant as the mother usually leaves it on the nipple and doesn't wash it off when infant feeds? I had a patient recently that the gentian violent just wasn't working for. Thank you,
Tricia Shamblin, RN, IBCLC
