Just to respond to part of Allison Montag's post on the baby with FPIES
update issues:

I have only a personal experience to draw on, but I had already been off
dairy for years before having a raft of allergy tests. For some time prior
to the tests I had noticed a vaguely queasy feeling after eating a
home-cooked veal casserole, which at the time was my main form of beef. It
smelt delicious in the oven, but as soon as I ate some, I'd regret it. After
testing, beef was one of the foods I was advised to exclude. So I went off
beef for a few years and no longer have that after effect since
reintroducing it.
Dairy was a different matter. I can remember anything from wheezing to an
asthma attack in association with dairy. (I first realised that dairy was
the issue when I noticed I wheezed in relation to eating yoghurt made from
cow's milk, yet no such effect happened when I had sheep's milk yoghurt or
goat yoghurt.) Later, there was an apparent link between bleeds by bowel and
consumption of dairy proteins in cheese or yoghurt. (Very scary!) An
underlyng cause turned out to be a large polyp, but the actual bleeds
happened in association with dairy (which is why i delayed having this
checked).
These days I seem to be able to eat cow cheese occasionally (at functions)
or have the occasional chai latte, but I would never make it a regular
practice.
