Hello all,
I just have to vent: a lovely mom I worked with for months, baby finally
nursing beautifully despite SO many issues over a long time, just went back
to work yesterday. Baby is cared for by loving dad. Mom walks in the door,
and baby absolutely refuses to breastfeed. Mom is devastated. We talk
through various things, why baby might be refusing, gentle strategies of being
present in various ways and following baby's lead when sleepy, calm etc, but
in the end I could tell she just wished she hadn't had to leave her 3 1/2
month old at all, and would not have, if we lived somewhere with decent
maternity protections.
My heart is broken for her and I hope fervently that her sweet little boy
who had struggled for so long then finally took to nursing with gusto, will
return to his breastfeeding relationship with her.
Argh,
Judy
