If your daughter called any of the UK helplines - and she could do so
:) - then I am pretty sure we'd discuss block feeding with her.
She's clearly gaining well (am assuming that's a pound above
birthweight, so her overall weight gain is better than a pound), so
the potetial concerns about supply dipping as a result would not be
great.
The scenario you describe is classic over supply - the only box not
ticked is the fact the baby is v. young.
At this stage, I'd be hoping block feeding would make breastfeeding a
happier, more comfortable experience for both of them.
Hope things go well :)

>My question is in regards of my own three week granddaughter. I am
>currently visiting her in London. The baby was born at term weighing
>5 lbs 13 oz. She was breech, undiscovered until my daughter had
>labored for over 12 hours... A story for another day. She nurses
>well and has gained close to a pound (they are relaxed about weight
>here). Problem seems to be that the baby has the ability to get a
>lot of milk and becomes uncomfortable long before she is satisfied
>sucking. So she revolves from eating, fussing, wanting back on the
>breast, gets too much, seems to be in pain, wants breast, gets too
>much, and so forth. She will sometimes suck on a finger, hates a
>pacifier. Not sure what to suggest! Any ideas? By the way, I am
>suspicious that her growth slowed in utero- her head circ. and size
>are not typical for the families. So I am delighted that she eats
>vigorously, just hate to see her so frequently distressed. And I'm
>not sure block feeding so soon is wise, rather, that she needs to
