Hmmmm, I've always objected to the language of choice in relation to
the ways that babies are fed, since it often hides what's really
happening and blames health outcomes on mothers rather than on the
recommendations they are _not_ receiving from their healthcare
providers. If we're minding our language, we wouldn't talk about the
benefits of breastfeeding, eg as Tricia describes:
>"Mother elects exclusive formula feeding after receiving education
>about the benefits of breastfeeding."
What phraseology could be used instead? "In the absence of medical
indication, mothers elects exclusive formula feeding after being
cautioned about its risks" ???
This core measure sounds remarkably like the BFHI criteria, where
mothers who choose not to breastfeed are taken out of the frame so
that the hospital can still receive accreditation if 80% of mothers
who _choose_ to breastfeed actually do so.
