A similar result, with no side effects, will be got with just steam from
the cup of boiling water. The steam can be directed to one nostril at a
time, instead of steaming the whole face, by gettitng a plastic cup, making
a small hole in the bottom, and inverting it over the cup of boiling water.
Just occlude the other nostril and wait till the temperatue is bearable.
Obviously caution is needed with the hot water, whether just using water or
with something in it.
